The 16-seed LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds will tip off against the 1-seed Michigan State Spartans on Friday in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
It bears repeating that no 16-seed has ever beaten a No. 1, but that won't stop the Blackbirds from trying. They made the tournament after defeating Robert Morris in the Northeast Conference Tournament championship game for an automatic bid. Long Island went 25-8 overall, and 16-2 in conference play.
The Spartans were the last 1-seed picked by the selection committee, following their win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday. They went 27-7 overall this season, and are led by Big Ten Player of the Year Draymond Green on offense and defense.
Game date/time: Friday, March 16, 9:20 p.m. ET
Location: Columbus, Ohio
TV: TBS
Announcers: Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg. Tracy Wolfson reporting.
