America East Tournament 2012: Stony Brook Basketball Earns No. 1 Seed

On Sunday, the Stony Brook Seawolves cemented the America East Conference men's basketball regular-season crown and earned the No. 1-overall seed for the league tournament, which begins Thursday, March 1.

The Stony Brook Seawolves collected their second America East men's basketball regular-season crown Sunday, as they defeated the visiting Maine Black Bears, 55-48, at the USB Sports Complex. The victory helped the Seawolves (20-8, 14-2 AE) earn the No. 1-overall seed in the upcoming America East Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday, March 1.

Stony Brook will played the winner of the Binghamton Bearcats and UMBC Retrievers, who each meet in a first-round match up at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday. The winner advance to the quarterfinal round that begins a two-day, single-elmination tournament at the Chase Family Arena in West Hartford, CT.

From there, two teams will advance to play in the America East Championship game, March 10, at the home of the lowest-remaining seed with the victor earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

First Round, Thursday, March 1:

8:15 p.m.: (No. 9 seeded) Binghamton Bearcats vs. (8) UMBC Retrievers

Quarterfinals, Saturday, March 3:

12:05 p.m.: (Winner of Thursday's game) vs. (1) Stony Brook Seawolves

2:15 p.m.: (4) Albany, N.Y. Great Danes vs. (5) New Hampshire Wildcats

6:05 p.m.: (2) Vermont Catamounts vs. (7) Maine Black Bears

8:15 p.m.: (3) Boston U. Terriers vs. (6) Hartford Hawks

Semifinals, Sunday, March 4 (on ESPN3):

5:02 p.m.: (Winners of Saturday's early games)

7:15 p.m.: (Winners of Saturday's late games)

Championship, Saturday, March 10 (on ESPN2):

11:02 a.m.: (Winners of semifinals games) at lowest remaining seed.
