Jets Free Agency 2012: An Early Overview

The New York Jets have $8.39 million in salary cap space as the 2012 NFL Free Agency period approaches, according to Pro Football Talk. That is an interesting number when you consider that ESPN New York is reporting a far-different scenario, stating that the Jets have just $464,000 in salary cap space.

Perhaps the discrepancy is based on how the salary cap rules are interpreted. PFT says this season teams are allowed to carry over excess salary cap space from the 2011.

Regardless, here is a current look at the Jets free agents, from Mac's Football Blog:

Restricted Free Agents (4)

TE Matthew Mulligan
LB Aaron Maybin
LB Jamaal Westerman
CB Marquice Cole

Unrestricted Free Agents (11)

QB Mark Brunell
QB Kevin O'Connell
RB LaDainian Tomlinson
WR Plaxico Burress
OL Robert Turner
DT Sione Pouha
LB Bryan Thomas
CB Donald Strickland
S Jim Leonhard
S Brodney Pool
K Nick Folk

ESPN New York expects that only Pouha, the team's starting nose tackle, will be a major priority for the Jets.
