The NFL commissioner's office has fined New York Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph $7,875 for his stomp on Washington Redskins Will Montgomery in Week 13's Monday night 16-17 loss, via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Joseph's stomp occurred with 6:56 remaining in the third quarter during a pileup on the field after a forced fumble by Chase Blackburn on Redskins running back Alfred Morris. While referees worked to uncover the pile, Joseph was caught stomping on Montgomery and being penalized for unnecessary roughness just outside of the scrum.
With the assistance of instant replay, it was evident Joseph's stomp was provoked by Montgomery, who kicked Joseph first. The NFL also noticed this, fining Montgomery $10,000 for starting the incident and kicking Joseph, hence the few extra-thousand-dollar loss for the Redskins center.
With the loss, the Giants' division lead is down to one game over Washington.
