The status of St. John's senior forward Orlando Sanchez remains in question, as the NCAA has yet to hand down a ruling regarding his eligibility for this season. The issue stems from Sanchez's age, as he is 24 years old. Coach Steve Lavin said of the case, "it's age and eligibility are the two things that are being evaluated."
Sanchez is a junior college transfer from Monroe College in New York, where he was an honorable mention JUCO All-American for the 2010-11 season. Sanchez averaged 8.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game in his final season at Monroe.
St. John's would love to see the 6'9 forward on the court, but are off to an 8-4 start without him. The team is led by wings D'Angelo Harrison and JaKarr Sampson, but could benefit from Sanchez's frontcourt presence. The Red Storm begin Big East conference play when they take on Villanova (8-4) on Jan. 2 in Philadelphia.
