Brooklyn's Barclays Center will host its first Hoops Winter Festival Saturday, and the second game of a triple-header will feature the St. John's Red Storm playing the St. Francis, NY Terriers.
The Red Storm (7-3) and Terriers (2-6) are schedule to play at 5 p.m., while the Fordham Rams and Princeton Tigers will tip-off the event at 2: 30 p.m. The nightcap will feature the No. 3-ranked Michigan Wolverines playing the West Virginia Mountaineers (8 p.m. on ESPN).
This will be the Johnnies first ever contest in the new Barclays Center, which is home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets. The Red Storm have not played in Brooklyn since 1958.
St. John's is coming off a 58-47 victory over Fordham last Saturday in the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival. JaKarr Sampson tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Red Storm's fifth victory in six games.
The performance helped Sampson earn the Big East Conference's Rookie of the Week honor.
Sophomore guard D'Angelo Harrison's 20.2 points per game paces St. John's, while Sampson (13.8) and sophomore guard Phil Greene IV (11.0) are the two other players scoring in double figures for the Red Storm.
Meanwhile, St. Francis is led by sophomore forward Jalen Cannon, who's averaging a team-high 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
The Terriers are tallying 69.0 point per game.
