Stony Brook will face Montana St.in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday, December 1. The 10-2 Seawolves defeated Villanova 20-10 in their first round game to set up the matchup with the Bobcats, who are 10-1 for the season. Montana St. had a bye in the first round of the FCS playoffs, their last game was a victory over the rival Montana Grizzlies.
Stony Brook ran the ball at will in the Villanova game, but the Montana St. defense will provide a sterner test. They rank No 7 in FCS against the run, making them a tough test for Miguel Maysonet and Marcus Coker. The pair combined for 267 yards in the Villanova game while the Seawovles were without regular starting quarterback Kyle Essington. Essington is still questionable with a thigh contusion, if he can't go it will be a second start for Lyle Negron.
The Bobcats' offense averages 36 points per game, and will be a challenge for the Seawolves defense to contain. Cody Kirk has rushed for 815 yards, and his 13 touchdowns lead the team.
