The New York Knicks remained undefeated on Friday night, earning a 104-94 win over the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden. It wasn't their best shooting night, but the offensive production from Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith, combined with the defensive effort, secured the win. Anthony finished with a game-high 31 points, getting into the lane and getting to the line for 14 free throws. Anthony also pulled down seven rebounds.
In addition to Anthony, Smith got loose off the bench, victimizing the Dallas defense for 22 points. Smith drained all three of his attempts from behind the arc and was 8 of 16 from the floor. Tyson Chandler and Ronnie Brewer were the only other Knicks players in double figures, but the offense did just enough to improve Mike Woodson's club to 4-0.
Dallas could not buy a bucket from long range, shooting just 29 percent from behind the arc. O.J. Mayo finished with 23 points, but it's clear that there's a huge void on the offensive end of the floor with Dirk Nowitzki out due to injury.
The Knicks will now have a couple days off before they go for their fifth straight win against a young, rebuilding Magic team on Tuesday night.
