Timberwolves vs. Nets results: Brooklyn blows 22-point lead, drops Game 2

The Brooklyn Nets dropped their second game at the Barclays Center, falling to 1-1 on the season with a 107-96 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Brooklyn blitzed Minnesota in the first half, taking a 15-point lead into the locker room and extending it to 22 in the third quarter. But the Timberwolves went on a furious rally in the fourth, making up the double-digit deficit and taking a lead in the final five minutes. A Chase Budinger three-pointer with less than a minute to play pushed the lead to seven. It was a 28-8 run and an 11-0 Minnesota rally to close out the game.

Brook Lopez struggled to get his shots to fall, and Nikola Pekovic was a handful on the other end. Pekovic came up with a couple of huge buckets down the stretch, both in transition and on the block, to seal the Minnesota win. Budinger and Andrei Kirilenko also led the second-half rally for Rick Adelman.

Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, and Lopez were all in double figures for the Nets, but the offense simply disappeared in the fourth. While building the double-digit lead, Johnson and Williams went a combined 6-of-9 from behind the arc, as it appeared Brooklyn would cruise to their second straight win. Johnson finished with 19 points, while Williams chipped in 18. But those easy shots did not fall in the fourth, and Minnesota pulled off the impressive comeback.

The Nets will now head out on the road for the first time this season, traveling to Miami for a game against the defending champion Heat on Wednesday.
