Four New York city area teams are in action tonight, most prominently a pair of teams involved in the Big East/SEC challenge.
South Carolina Gamecocks vs. St. John's Red Storm, 7:30 p.m., ESPNU: The Johnnies have run off two straight since a pair of losses, beating Holy Cross and Florida-Gulf Coast by double figures. D'Angelo Harrison is having a nice scoring season in the early going, putting up 21.2 points per game while point guard Phil Green IV is chipping in 13.8 points and 4.2 assists. The Gamecocks are 5-1 in their first season under Frank Martin, but they haven't played anybody of note, losing to Elon and being pushed to overtime by Missouri State.
Seton Hall Pirates vs. LSU Tigers, 9:30 p.m., ESPNU: Seton Hall has looked genuinely impressive thus far, only losing once, to Washington in overtime. Fuquan Edwin's having a successful season shooting the ball, hitting 51.2 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from beyond the arc as he's putting up 19.5, over seven points higher than he averaged his sophomore season. Like St. John's, they're also facing a first-year head coach, Johnny Jones, who has his team undefeated against virtually nobody.
St. Francis Terriers vs. Norfolk State Spartans, 7 p.m.: The Terriers look to move above .500 with a game in Virginia against a 2-5 MEAC team.
Manhattan Jaspers vs. Fordham Rams, 7:30 p.m.: Neither team has started off the year well, with Manhattan at 1-3 and the Rams at 1-4. Manhattan's win came over a Hofstra squad hoping to perform well with several talented transfers.
