The New York Mets have reportedly made a seven-year offer to star third baseman David Wright "worth well above $100 million."
That contract would be in line with the contracts recently given to star third basemen Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays and Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals.
The Daily News optimistically stated that "There is a chance that the Mets could have Wright under contract before the winter meetings, which begin on Monday."
Signing Wright to a long-term deal would go a long way toward making the offseason a success for Mets. Wright is the face of the struggling franchise, and losing him would be another step in the wrong direction.
