Stony Brook vs. Villanova score: Seawolves advance in 2012 FCS playoffs

Davonte Anderson's second interception iced a 20-10 win for Stony Brook over Villanova in the first round of the FCS playoffs. The Seawolves advance to play Montana State on December 1 in the second round next week.

It was a ground-and-pound affair for Stony Brook, as they racked up 263 yards rushing in a game where they only threw the ball six times. Miguel Maysonet and Marcus Coker both went over the century-mark for the Seawolves, with 160 and 107 yards respectively. Maysonet had both Stony Brook touchdowns, each of them coming in the second quarter.

Villanova had the ball for just around 20 minutes in this game, a credit to the Seawolves running game. But Stony Brook's defense contributed, and held Wildcat quarterback John Robertson to 15 of 31 for 135 yards through the air to go along with Anderson's two picks. Robertson did manage to move the ball on the ground, with 85 yards on 15 rushes and the lone Villanova touchdown.

Stony Brook won despite missing their starting quarterback Kyle Essington. The Seawolves instead were forced to go with Lyle Negron, a junior who has never thrown a touchdown in his collegiate career.
