Fantasy football start/sit, Week 12: New York Jets

Who to start and who to sit among the New York Jets for Week 12

Scott Rovak-US PRESSWIRE

It is Week 12 in the National Football League and in fantasy leagues across the world, which means most leagues have just this week and next before the playoffs begin.

The New York Jets host the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving Night Football, so without further ado, here is your fantasy football guide for the New York Jets for Week 12.

Quarterback
To be perfectly honest, Mark Sanchez had a pretty good game in Foxboro earlier in the season. But let's be honest - are you willing to put your fantasy playoff future on the shoulders on the Sanchize? Not likely, despite the fact that the Patriots rank 30th in the NFL in pass defense.

Verdict - Sit him!

Running Back
During the Jets' loss to New England in Week 7, Shonn Greene rushed 16 times for 54 yards and a score, but he was not a focal point of the offense. Add in that the Pats rank 10th in the league in rush defense, and signs point to Greene not being a worthy fantasy starter.

Verdict - Consider him a flex option at best

Receivers
Jeremy Kerley has developed a nice chemistry with Sanchez, and against New England in Week 7, Kerley caught seven balls for 120 yards. Dustin Keller had seven catches for 93 yards and a score. Last week in St. Louis, though, Kerley only had three grabs while Keller had just two.

But New England boasts one of the league's worst pass defenses, so Kerley and Keller are worthy of consideration, with Kerley a solid WR2 option.

Verdict - Start Kerley, but sit Keller

Kicker
The opportunities for points just have not been consistent enough to make Nick Folk a viable fantasy kicker. But this game has the chance to be a shootout with New England boasting the No. 1 offense and the No. 30 defense. The weather forecast is good, so Folk is a solid choice for this game.

Verdict - Start him and hope he passes the gravy

Defense/Special Teams
Playing against Tom Brady usually does not make for a very successful fantasy night. The offense is ranked first in the NFL, averaging 431.9 yards per game, including 142.5 on the ground, which is not the norm of a Bill Belichik offense. Despite the Pats losing star tight end Rob Gronkowski to a broken forearm, the offense is just too good to think the Jets DST will have a strong game.

Verdict - Sit them

So there you have it, your guide to fantasy football's Week 12 and the New York Jets.

Happy Thanksgiving!
