The New York Knicks (6-1) kept their spot atop the Atlantic Division despite suffering their first defeat on Friday, which came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies. On Thursday, however, New York notched an impressive victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
In second place, the Brooklyn Nets (5-2) have won four straight, including a 102-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday. The Celtics were without point guard Rajon Rondo for that contest.
Boston (5-4) is now tied for third place with the Philadelphia 76ers, who defeated the Utah Jazz on Friday night, 99-93. The Toronto Raptors (2-6) are in last place in the division, but they won their last game against the Indiana Pacers, 74-72, on Tuesday.
Around the Eastern Conference, the defending champion Miami Heat (7-3) appear to be as tough as they were last year. In addition, the Milwaukee Bucks (5-2) currently lead the Central Division. The Bucks remain relatively untested, as three of their five victories were over teams that currently have a losing record.
