Five New York area small school college basketball teams were in action Monday night.

No. 22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 84, Monmouth Hawks 57

Guard Dion Nesmith, with 13 points, was the only Monmouth player who scored in double-digits as the ranked Fighting Irish dominated the Hawks from start to finish. Monmouth drops to 1-1 with the loss.

Lafayette Leopards 98, LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 94 (OT)

LIU Brooklyn tied the game towards the end of regulation on C.J. Garner's layup with 18 seconds left, but Lafayette grabbed an early lead in the overtime period and never surrendered it. Blackbirds forward Jamal Olasewere had 25 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.

Pittsburgh Panthers 86, Fordham Rams 51

Both Jeffrey Short and Bryan Smith scored 11 points for Fordham, but Pittsburgh was too much for the Rams on Monday night, dropping Fordham to 0-2 on the season.

St. Peter's Peacocks 64, Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 61

The Peacocks remain perfect on the season at 2-0 with Monday night's win over the Blue Devils.

Illinois Fighting Illini 89, St. Francis Terriers 64

St. Francis exploited the Illini defense early and hung around for much of the first half. But the Illinois offense proved too strong, as they pulled away, took a 20-point lead into halftime and won easily Monday night in Champaign, IL.
