Knicks vs. Nets opener at Barclays Center postponed due to Hurricane Sandy

The regular season opener scheduled for Thursday night between the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks is expected to be postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, according to multiple reports. New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to make an announcement later on Wednesday, which will officially postpone the event.

There is no word yet on when the game will be rescheduled.

As of this time, the city is still reeling from the effects of the storm as subways are still flooded and will likely not be reopened prior to Thursday, which would make it difficult for spectators to attend the game.

Thursday nights game was supposed to be the grand opening of the new Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. Now, the Nets will have to wait until Saturday to open their new arena when they host the Toronto Raptors. The Knicks will return to action on Friday night when they challenge the Miami Heat.
