With their own playoff destiny squarely in hand, the New York Yankees send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound Wednesday night aiming to complete a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox and clinch the American League East crown.

A Yankees victory over Boston or a Baltimore Orioles loss to the Tampa Bay Rays would give the Yankees the divisional title outright. The Red Sox will start Daisuke Matsuzaka, looking to at least take complete control out of the Yankees' hands.

If the Yankees lose to the Red Sox and the Orioles top the Rays, the two would be forced into a one-game playoff to determine the AL East title. The loser of the one-game playoff would then play in baseball's new one-game Wild Card playoff round.

The Yankees grabbed control of their playoff destiny on Tuesday night with a thrilling victory over the Red Sox in 12 innings. Raul Ibanez's game-tying, pinch-hit home run in the ninth sent the game into extras, and it was Ibanez's single to score Francisco Cervelli from second to win the game, 4-3.
