Fantasy football start/sit, Week 8: New York Jets

It is Week 8 and this is the primer you need for your fantasy success.

Marc Serota

Eight weeks into the NFL and fantasy football season, most teams know what they are. With the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills taking the week off, depth is key.

Here is who you should start and who you should from the New York Jets, who host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.

Quarterback
Mark Sanchez threw for 306 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions, in the Jets' overtime victory in Week 3 in Miami. After seven weeks, the Dolphins rank 28th in the league in passing defense, allowing an average of 284.8 yards per game, but despite that, the Sanchise is still not a recommended fantasy starter.

Sit him!

Running Back
The Dolphins run defense ranks fourth in the league, allowing just 78.2 yards per game. Shonn Greene rushed for 40 yards on 19 carries in Week 3. Greene has reemerged as a viable fantasy back, scoring four touchdowns in his last two games, so if you need a bye week replacement for Ray Rice or Arian Foster or C.J. Spiller, Greene is an option, but make sure you have lowered expectations because of the stout Dolphins defense. Bilal Powell is not an option in any league or format.

Start him, but with low expectations

Receivers
Stephen Hill is a big talent who has flashes of being a worthy fantasy player, but then he will drop a key pass and suddenly lose the trust of the team. Jeremy Kerley is now the Jets No. 1 receiver with 25 receptions and 435 yards, but he has only scored twice. Dustin Keller is back and working on reestablishing a rhythm with Sanchez, but he is a worthy start in only the deepest of leagues.

Sit them all, but consider Kerley and Hill if absolutely desparate

Kicker
A bright spot offensively for the Jets has been Nick Folk. He has made all 11 of his field goal attempts and is perfect on extra points. The problem with starting Folk is that the Jets just do not move the ball consistently enough or score enough points. He is a middle-tier kicker this week, so start him if you have no other options, but do not expect a huge game.

Start him, but do not expect much

Defense/Special Teams
This is a unit that can be confidently placed in any fantasy lineup. During the overtime win in Week 3, LaRon Landry took an interception back for a touchdown and Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson have big play capability. Add in the fact that the Dolphins start rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill and you have the makings of a solid defensive performance.

Start them!

So there it is, who to start and who to sit from the New York Jets for Week 8.

Good luck!
