Tyler Roberson, the 29th-best men's basketball recruit for the Class of 2013, made an unofficial visit to Rutgers University Friday for the program's Midnight Madness event. The 6'8, 210-pound wingman is considering committing to six schools including Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Syracuse Orange, Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks and Villanova Wildcats.
Roberson, a Roselle, NJ native, spoke with SNY.TV on Sunday and said his visit with Rutgers and head coach Mike Rice went well.
"I went to the Midnight Madness and that was exciting. It was fun. There was a dunk contest [won by Vincent Garrett] and they scrimmaged a little bit."
According to SNY's Adam Zagoria, Roberson would be a, "huge get," for Rice and the Scarlet Knights, who're looking for their first commitment for the Class of 2013. If Roberson decides to attend Rutgers he will make an immediate impact for the rising program.
"They would use me," Roberson said. "I’ll make an impact with the team right away. They want me to play on the wing. They’ll use me in a lot of different ways on the court."
He added: "It would be nice to go to a big school and stay home. I think it would be exciting to do something like that."
Already, Roberson has made official visits to SMU Mustangs and Syracuse, and has visits setup to Kentucky (Oct. 19), Villanova (Oct. 26) and Kentucky (Nov. 2). Roberson has yet to announce when he will make his commitment decision.
