Garcia vs. Morales: World championship boxing returns to Brooklyn

For the first time in 81 years, when Maxie Rosenbloom defeated Jimmy Slattery by a unanimous 15-round decision at Ebbets Field to retain the light-heavyweight title on August 5, 1931, Brooklyn will host a major championship main event this Saturday when Danny Garcia defends the WBA junior welterweight title against Erik Morales.

For the first time in 81 years, when Maxie Rosenbloom defeated Jimmy Slattery by a unanimous 15-round decision at Ebbets Field to retain the light-heavyweight title on August 5, 1931, Brooklyn will host a major championship main event this Saturday when Danny Garcia defends the WBA junior welterweight title against Erik Morales.

In the co-main event, hometown kid and WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi puts his title on the line against Pablo Cesar Cano. Also featured are undefeated, top-ranked WBO middleweight contender, Manhattan's Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin, battles unbeaten champ Hassan N'Dam. Yet another title fight has Devon Alexander "The Great" facing Randall Bailey for Bailey's IBF welterweight crown. And in a special attraction, Brooklyn kid and cancer survivor Danny Jacobs, a former NABO and NABF middleweight champion, competes for the first time since March 2011 against Josh Luteran.

Showtime Extreme will air the preliminary bouts beginning at 7 p.m. EST with the main card going live on Showtime at 8 p.m. Listed below is a schedule of events during fight week that will be open to the public.

Sunday, October 14, 12 p.m.
Danny Garcia, Louis Collazo and Eddie Gomez will appear on the New York Daily News float, and Erik Morales and Peter Quillin on the Time Warner Cable float, as part of the Hispanic Day parade running on Fifth Ave. from 44th to 69th Street in Manhattan.

Also at noon, welterweight contender Dmitriy Salita hosts a meet and greet at the Tatiana Night Club and Restaurant on the Brighton Beach Boardwalk (3152 Brighton 6th Street; Brooklyn, NY 11235)
