The Mets scored the first two runs of the game, one in each the fifth and sixth innings, but could not fend off the Marlins, falling to Miami Monday night, 3-2.
New York got on the board first with a David Wright RBI single in the fifth and followed it up with a Mike Baxter RBI double in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. But the Marlins immediately responded. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 37th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth, a solo blast, to cut the lead to one. Jose Reyes tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, and Rob Brantly doubled home Carlos Lee in the eighth to put Miami ahead for good, 3-2.
Heath Bell gets the win for the Marlins after pitching one inning in relief, not allowing a hit or a run. He improves his record to 4-5. For New York, Ramon Ramirez gets the loss, his fourth of the season. He allowed one run on three hits in one inning of relief work.
Steve Cishek gets the save, his 15th of the season, after pitching a scoreless ninth.
