The New York Yankees ran away from the Red Sox Monday night with a nine-run second inning and strong pitching throughout, defeating Boston, 10-2.
Almost all of the Yankees' offense production came in the second inning, with four home runs, eight hits and 13 batters. Robinson Cano finished the inning with two hits, one home run and three RBIs.
Boston Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz began the inning but could not finish it. He gets the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits in 1⅔ innings of work, dropping his record to 11-8.
C.C. Sabathia gets the win for New York after pitching eight innings and allowing only two runs on four hits.
The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the evening, 5-3, giving the Yankees a one-game lead in the AL East. The Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers are all in action later Monday night
