SB Nation New York MLB Power Rankings: This week's New York top 10

Ranking the top 10 players between the New York Yankees and New York Mets for the past week.

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

With only a few days left in the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season that means it is time for our final look at the top 10 players from the New York Yankees and New York Mets during the past week. Here is this week's SB Nation New York MLB Power Rankings.

1. R.A. Dickey, Mets - There have been no shortage of disappointments with the Mets 2012 season, but among them all has been the amazing Dickey. On his way to what surely will be a Cy Young Award, Dickey picked up his 20th victory, the first knuckleballer to reach that milestone in more than 30 years. There are some that will brush off the value of pitcher wins, but there will always be something special about reaching 20 and what Dickey has given Mets fans this season has been beyond special. -- Ryan Jones

2. CC Sabathia, Yankees -- With the Bronx Bombers locked in a down-to-the-wire duel with the Baltimore Orioles for the American League East title, Sabathia pitched last Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins like the ace the Yankees need him to be. He went eight innings and allowed only two earned runs while striking out 10 in an 8-2 victory.

3. Robinson Cano, Yankees -- The second baseman hit .536 during the past week (15-for-28) with five doubled and six RBI during the week. The Yankees will need Cano to keep it up over the next three games.

4. Nick Swisher, Yankees -- Swisher hit .308 (8-for-26) with a pair of home runs and seven RBI during the week. The right fielder, who can be a free agent at the end of the year, is having one of the best seasons of his career with 24 home runs and 92 RBI.

5. Jonathon Niese, Mets - Though he's been overshadowed by Dickey, Niese continued his strong season this week. He tosses seven innings of one run ball Friday night against the playoff-bound Atlanta Braves. He has now given up three runs or less in nine of his last 10 starts. -- Ryan Jones

6. David Wright, Mets - The Mets offense showed a few signs of life over the last week and David Wright was right in the middle of the action, hitting safely in five of six games (8-for-22). He also launched two home runs, finishing September with four after sleepwalking (along with the rest of his teammates) through August with just one long ball. -- Ryan Jones

7. Bobby Parnell, Mets - Chalk up another scoreless week for Parnell, including saving Jon Rauch's bacon Thursday afternoon as he was trying to blow Dickey's 20th win. For the week, Parnell totaled 3.1 innings, never needing more than nine pitches in an outing as he slowly realizes he doesn't need to try and strike out every batter he faces. -- Ryan Jones

8. Russell Martin, Yankees -- Martin has, for the most part, had a miserable offensive season. He has 20 home runs and 52 RBI, but only a .209 batting average. He came up big with the bat for the Yankees last wee, however. He hit a three-run home run in an 11-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. For the week, Martin hit .286 (6-for-21) with two home runs and five RBI.

9. Ike Davis, Mets - Maybe Ike Davis should keep going out late. He went deep three times last week, including twice Monday night against the Pirates, helping the Mets complete an accomplishment that has been rare in the 2012 season: a winning week. -- Ryan Jones

10. Andy Pettitte, Yankees -- Went 1-1 in two starts last week, but continued to pitch impressively since coming off the disabled list. He pitched six shoutout innings in a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins. In 5.2 innings against Toronto, a 3-2 loss, he gave up the first runs he has surrendered in any of the three outings since returning from a broken ankle. Still, he posted a 2.31 ERA for the week and the Yankees have to be comforted by having him in the rotation.
