The New York Mets' roller coaster regular season will begin its final series Monday, as the Mets and Miami Marlins begin a three-game series at Marlins Park. The Mets (73-86) and Marlins (67-92) will each be playing for just bragging rights as neither squad has a chance to make the postseason -- those dreams died long ago.
Jeurys Familia (0-0) will make his first major league start for the Mets, who are looking to extended their winning streak over the Marlins to seven games. Familia, a September call up, will be auditioning for a possible spot in next year's rotation, as he opposes Marlins ace Josh Johnson (8-14).
Johnson will be making his final start of 2012. If Johnson is able to pitch a complete game, he would reach the 200-innings mark for just the second time in his career. He has thrown for 191 1/3 innings this season.
First pitch for the contest is set for 7:10 p.m. ET and it can be seen on SNY.
