Baron Davis Injury Update: Guard Likely Out For Another Week

It looks like it might be a while yet before point guard Baron Davis makes his long-awaited, much speculated about debut with the New York Knicks. The Knicks face the Detroit Pistons Tuesday night, and coach Mike D’Antoni said Davis won’t play against the Pistons, and may not play at all this week.

“I think next week’s looking more like it … The sooner the better, but I don’t know for sure,” D’Antoni said.

The veteran guard, signed as a free agent during training camp after being amnestied by the Cleveland Cavaliers, has yet to play this season due to a back injury. He practiced with the Knicks last week, but D’Antoni apparently told reporters that Davis is experiencing lingering soreness.

D’Antoni, whose job could be in jeopardy with the Knicks floundering, needs the point guard in his lineup as soon as possible. The Knicks (7-13) have lost nine of 10.
