After watching his team lose to the Miami Dolphins 19-17 on Sunday and fall short of the playoffs for the first time in his three-year tenure as head coach, there was no braggadoccio in Rex Ryan during his post-game press conference.

"I'll shoulder the blame," a somber Ryan said. "8-8 clearly is not what we were trying to get to. We have to look at every aspect of our team, ask ourselves how can we get better, and we'll do that.

"We don't want to be average. We all know what we're chasing, and clearly we're not there yet."

The Jets lost in the AFC Championship Game in each of Ryan's first two seasons as head coach.

Ryan's post-game remarks on nyjets.com did not address Santonio Holmes' benching.
