UConn 35, Fordham 3: Lyle McCombs Four TDs Helps Rout Rams

Freshman running back Lyle McCombs ran for 141 yards and scored four touchdowns Saturday afternoon to help the host Connecticut Hskies to an easy, 35-3, season-opening victory over the Fordham Rams at Rentschler Field. The Huskies scored the games first 35 points and led 21-0 at halftime.

The rookie for Staten Island, NY got the unexpected start over senior D.J. Shoemaker, who did not play. Walk-on junior quarter Johnny McEntee started and got a majority of the snaps on offense. McEntee finished the game 8-for-12 for 113 yards. Junior tight end Ryan Griffin caught seven passes for 97 yards and a TD.

Fordham's lone score was a 28-yard field goal by Patrick Murray with 24 seconds remaining in the game.
