The New York Giants travel to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. Thursday night to conclude the 2011 NFL preseason with a game against the New England Patriots. Game is 7:35 p.m. ET and it will be televised by WNBC (Ch. 4) in the New York metropolitan area. The radio broadcast can be heard on WCBS 101.1 FM in the metroplitan New York area, and an numerous local stations in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Starters traditionally play little, if at all, in the preseason finale. That should especially be the case for the Giants, playing their second game in an unheard of 72 hours due to Hurricane Irene forcing the Giants and Jets to play Monday night.
There are several interesting position battles still ongoing for the Giants, who are 1-2 in the preseason. Final roster cuts are Saturday, when all NFL teams have to reach the 53-man regular-season roster limit.
The Giants have a decision to make at punter, where incumbent Matt Dodge is trying to hold veteran and former New York Jet Steve Weatherford. The Giants also have decisions to make at backup linebacker, wide receiver, cornerback, third running back, backup quarterback and at the backup defensive tackle spots, among others.
Thursday's action should go a long way toward determining which players earn those final roster spots.
