When the 2011 regular season opens New Meadowlands Stadium will be no more, and MetLife Stadium will be born. That news came this morning courtesy of the New York Post

According to the Post the deal could be for as much as $20 million over the next 20 years. The Post said the official announcement is expected next week.

I am never a fan of these naming rights deals. I just hate 'corporate' names for stadiums. In this case it could be worse, though.

We could have ended up with 'JetBlue Stadium' or 'Green Giant Stadium.'

The new stadium, built at a cost of about $1.6 billion, opened last season. It is shared by both the New York Jets and New York Giants. The stadium replaced Giants Stadium, which was wholly owned by the Giants but where the Jets also played their home games for many years prior to the current stadium being built.
