Red Bulls Notebook 6.9.11: Honoring Stammler Edition

The New York Red Bulls have a tremendous matchup against the New England Revolution this Friday. But before the game begins they are going to honor one of their own. From the New York Red Bulls official site:

The Red Bulls will honor former midfielder Seth Stammler prior to this Friday's match against the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena (Kickoff: 8:30 PM ET; TV: Fox Soccer Channel). Stammler, who retired at the conclusion of the 2010 season, played all seven of his years in MLS with New York. His versatility and grittiness allowed him to excel in several positions during his career as he endeared himself to New York fans.

It's a huge honor for Stammler, who will always be remembered as one of the hardest working player on the pitch game in and game out. But once the festivities are over the Red Bulls, who have drawn their past four matches, will have a very difficult 90 minutes to play.

Still without both Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo, both whom started for the United States in their 2-0 Gold Cup opening victory over Canada Tuesday night, the road doesn't get any easier for the Red Bulls. New York will also be missing Dwayne De Rosario, who started for Canada in the United States matchup, and starting keeper Bouna Coundoul.

Thierry Henry, who didn't record a point for the first time in six games against the Columbus Crew, will be available for the Red Bulls however. Despite not getting a point, Henry did a masterful job stretching the Crew's defensive corps and allowing dangerous scoring chances.

For the Red Bulls, they need Henry to be as dominant again against the Revolution. We'll have to wait till Friday, however, to see if he is.
