ESPN baseball analyst Keith Law has issued his final mock draft in advance of the 2011 MLB Draft, which begins Monday night.
Law has projected the New York Mets to take Connecticut right-handed pitcher Matt Barnes with the 13th selection in the draft. Says Law:
They could take Taylor Guerrieri, who has the upside but is a fairly risky pick, but the mandate is to get pitching here if at all possible. Very high interest in Brandon Nimmo may be unrequited as he probably won't get to their next pick at 44.
The New York Yankees do not have a selection in the first round. They do not pick until 51st overall in the supplemental round and were not part of Law's mock.
Law projects that the Pittsburgh Pirates will take UCLA right-hander Gerrit Cole No. 1. Cole was chosen by the Yankees in the 2008 first round, but chose to attend UCLA instead.
-- SB Nation New York will provided coverage of the selections for both the Mets and Yankees Monday night.
