Good morning, New York/New Jersey sports fans! The 2011 NBA Draft was Thursday. The 2011 NHL Draft kicks off Friday night. Let's look at the proceedings.
2011 NBA Draft Results: Knicks Select Iman Shumpert, PG, Georgia Tech: Wow! The Knicks actually did something here with defense in mind. Yes, defense. That thing that they hardly ever played a season ago, and that Mike D'Antoni-coached teams have pretty much never played with any real consistent effort. Maybe Shumpert, a 6-foot-6 guard, can make a difference.
2011 NBA Draft Results: Nets Trade For Marshon Brooks, SG, Providence: The Nets were not able to move up into the upper portion of the draft, but they did swing a deal with Boston to get Brooks, an explosive scorer. The Nets were offensively challenged in 2010-2011, so Brooks should have an opportunity to help right away.
NBA Draft 2011: Kemba Walker Taken No. 9 By Charlotte Bobcats: Bronx native Kemba Walker will bring his winning attiude to Michael Jordan's Charlotte Bobcats. Walker, of course, led the UConn Huskies to the 2010-2011 national championship.
Yankees Trade Rumors: Brian Cashman Squashes Jose Reyes Chatter: Forget about it, Yankee fans and radio talking heads. Yankee GM Brian Cashman says the New York Mets shortstop is not coming to the Bronx, via trade or free agency.
NHL Draft Begins Friday Night: The 2011 NHL Entry Draft starts tonight. The New Jersey Devils pick fourth, the New York Islanders fifth and the New York Rangers 15th. Check out our NHL Draft Hub for complete coverage.
