It has been an interesting week for the New York Red Bulls, while they prepare to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy this Saturday.
As you all know from SB Nation NY's post-game recap, the Red Bulls victory over Sporting Kansas City put them in first place in the Eastern Conference.
This is a season in which the experts have predicted that New York will make a title run. They've held up their end of the bargain thus far, but it's a very long season with very big litmus tests. One of those tests is Saturday against the first-place Galaxy.
Still, the Red Bulls' accomplishments to this point have been impressive. They were recently vaulted to second place in the MLS power rankings (see the entire list here).
The biggest storyline running around Red Bull Nation this week is the return of Juan Pablo Angel. The former New York striker signed with the Galaxy this off-season and will face his former team for the first time Saturday. Angel and Thierry Henry played very well with each other towards the end of the season, but injuries hampered their ability to create a force up front. Now the two will go against each other wearing different jerseys, it's just too bad they won't be covering one another.
In case you're curious, here is what the Red Bulls schedule looks like the rest of this week:
Friday, May 6: Training at Montclair State University facility at 10:30 AM. Travel to Los Angeles.
Saturday, May 7: Red Bulls at Los Angeles Galaxy at Home Depot Center at 11:00 PM ET (TV: ESPN2/ESPNDeportes; Radio: WQBU 92.7 FM).
Sunday, May 8: Return to NY/NJ area.
More on Saturday.
