Mets Vs. Giants: World Series Champs Visit Citi Field As Two Struggling Offenses Collide

The New York Mets (12-16) put an end to their three-game funk in dramatic fashion -- after a celebrated announcement by President Obama -- against the Philadelphia Phillies very early Monday morning and they'll look to carry over that feel-good win in tonight's contest against the San Francisco Giants, who are 13-15 on the year. Both teams have been dreadful at the plate lately. R.A Dickey will oppose Ryan Vogelsong.

Dickey is coming off an outing against the Washington Nationals in which he allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings but got a no decision. He's given the Mets innings this season and sports a 3.82 ERA on the year. With Pablo Sandoval on the shelf with a broken hamate bone, this San Francisco is extremely week. Only Buster Posey poses a huge threat.

Vogelsong earned his first win since 2005 in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a Giants 1998 fifth-round draft pick but really has bounced around quite a bit in his career. He was part of the Jason Schmidt-to-the-Giants trade that sent him to the Pirates, then went to Japan to pitch (along with other minor league affiliates once he returned). Now, at 34, he's looking to find his niche in the majors, a chance he has only because Barry Zito is on the disabled list with a strained food. Vogelsong relies primarily on a 90-mph fastball and slightly slower cutter.

Just as the last series started, with the Phillies' rookie on the mound, this is the Mets chance to get off to a hot start. San Francisco's starters won't get any friendlier than this.
