↵Geesh, haven't the New York Mets already had enough bad things happen to them as a franchise this season? Now comes word that highly-touted pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia has a torn ligament in his elbow and is headed for Tommy John surgery. That means it will probably be the 2013 season before you see him pitching in the big leagues.
↵As if they needed one the New York Yankees found another reason to appreciate Mariano Rivera Monday night. The Yankees benefitted from a ninth-inning implosion by Detroit closer Jose Valverde to break a 3-3 with two soft runs. Rivera, pitching for the third straight day, then set the Tigers down on a measly nine pitches as the Yankees won, 5-3.
↵Let's hope there is no validity to the story about New York Giants' first-round draft choice Prince Amukamara falling in the NFL Draft because of his Nigerian heritage. If there is any truth to that, that would be a sad commentary on the ignorance of NFL decision-makers.
