St. John's Baseball Advances To Big East Baseball Championship

New York area collegiate baseball fans got their dream match up Saturday as both the Seton Hall Pirates and St. John's Red Storm won their semifinal contests and will meet in the Big East Conference baseball finale, which will be played Sunday at noon on ESPNU. The Red Storm (35-19) used a three-run third inning and a 3-for-5, two-RBI performance from center fielder Jimmy Brennan to defeat the Louisville Cardinals, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in the conference semifinals. Earlier in the day, the Pirates eliminated the Connecticut Huskies, 12-2, to advance to the finals.

According to BigEast.org, St. John's and Seton Hall have met once before in the conference final, which featured the Johnnies winning 7-6 in 11 innings in 1985. On Sunday, St. John's will try to win its second consecutive (seventh overall) Big East title, while the Pirates will be playing for their third Big East title.
