Syracuse Shakes Off First-Half Struggles, Defeats Siena To Advance In NCAA Tournament

Sophomore JoJo Marasco netted a hat trick and senior Josh Amidon tallied two goals Sunday night to help the top-seeded Syracuse Orange down Siena College, 10-4, in a first-round NCAA Tournament contest at the Carrier Dome. The Orange (15-1) advance to the second round where they will play the Maryland Terps next Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA (noon on ESPNU). The Terps upset No. 8 North Carolina, 13-6, on Saturday -- click here for complete NCAA Tournament bracket.

Leading just 4-2 at halftime, Syracuse netted four unanswered goals, scored by Amidon, Maracsco, Steve Ianzito and Stephen Keogh, to take an 8-2 advantage. The Orange, who outshot the Saints, 51-22, and collected 35 ground balls to Siena's 14, never looked back.

Siena's goalie Tom Morr, who made 19 saves, played extremely well, but the Saints couldn't overcome their 19 turnovers and lack of offense. Brendan Meehan, Marquis Terrell, Danny Martinsen and Kyle Curry each scored goals for the MAAC champion Saints, who finish the season 13-5.
