The first round of the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament was completed Sunday night as the top-seeded Syracuse Orange defeated Siena College, 10-4, at the Carrier Dome. The Orange (15-1) advance to lacrosse’s Elite Eight to play the unranked Maryland Terps, who upset No. 8-seeded North Carlina on Sunday, 13-6.
Other Sunday winners featured: No. 7-seeded Virginia edging Bucknell, 13-12, in sudden victory and No. 6 Denver downing Villanova, 13-10. On Saturday, No. 2 Cornell easily beat Hartford, 13-5; No. 3 Johns Hopkins clobbered Hofstra, 12-5; No. 4 Notre Dame eased passed Penn, 13-6; and No. 5 Duke squeaked by Delaware, 15-14.
