The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox renew their long-standing rivalry this afternoon at Fenway Park (2:05 p.m., YES) in a game also marking Boston's home opener. With the Red Sox off to a historically bad 0-6 start the Yankees (4-2) find themselves in an interesting position.
A sweep of the three-game series would push the Red Sox 0-9, which would mark the worst beginning to a season in franchise history. Conversely, being swept by the currently winless Red Sox would have the New York City sports radio talk show phone lines lit up on Monday morning with all sorts of calls for firings, benchings, trades and who knows what else.
Such is the life of the rivalry, and the nature of sports in the Big Apple.
