Good morning, New York/New Jersey sports fans! Let's get right to our first look at the regional sports scene.
↵If you are a New York Knicks fan you have waited a long time for tonight. The Knicks make their first playoff appearance since 2004 when they take on the Boston Celtics (7 p.m., TNT, MSG). Can the sixth-seeded Knicks upend the third-seeded Celtics? It seems unlikely, but the Knicks did play well down the stretch of the regular season while Boston sputtered a bit.
↵Freddy Garcia and his 85-miles-per-hour fastball showed Saturday that velocity isn't everything, pitching six shutout innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers, 5-2.
↵Unfortunately for the New York Mets there are 147 games left in the regular season. The Mets dropped a doubleheader to Atlanta Saturday, extending their losing streak to seven games. New York is now 4-11.
↵The New York Red Bulls defeated the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday, 3-0. The three goals is more than the Red Bulls had scored in their four previous games.
↵Yonkers native and former Syracuse linebacker Doug Hogue has been getting attention from both the New York Giants and New York Jets as the 2011 NFL Draft approaches.
