The first round of the 2011 Big East Conference Tournament completed around 11:45 p.m Tuesday night as the No. 11-seeded Marquette Golden Eagles easily defeated the No. 14 Providence Friars, 87-66. Other teams earning first-round victories were No. 15 USF, which upset No. 10 Villanova 70-69, No. 14 Rutgers, which downed New Jersey rival No. 13 Seton Hall, 76-70 in overtime and No. 9 UConn, who routed No. 16 DePaul, 97-71.
