Morning Coffee! Big East Tournament Off To Wild Start

Good morning, New York/New Jersey sports fans! Today is Day 2 of the Big East Conference Basketball Tournament, and Day 1 certainly provided its share of highlights.

Rutgers and Seton Hall met Tuesday in what, really, was the Battle of New Jersey. Since this is the Big East Tournament, the game of course lasted into overtime before Rutgers was able to win, 76-70. The Scarlet Knights gets to face St. John's today at 2 p.m ET, ESPN2).

There was also USF knocking off Villanova, 70-69,  with a basket in the final seconds. The Bulls may also have knocked the Wildcats out of the NCAA Tournament with the first-round upset.

Today's full schedule is as follows:

Noon (ESPN2): No. 8 Georgetown Hoyas vs. No. 9 Connecticut Huskies; 2 p.m. (ESPN2): No. 5 St. John's vs. No. 14 Rutgers Scarlet Knights; 7 p.m. (ESPN2): No. 7 Cincinnati Bearcats vs. No. 15 South Florida Bulls; 9 p.m. (ESPN2): No. 6 West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Marquette/Providence winner (9 p.m. on ESPN2).

NHL: The New Jersey Devils need every point they can get as the season dwindles to a precious few games and their playoff hopes hang in the balance. Losses like Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Senators, a scuffling team with little to play for, won't help.

NFL: Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber is planning a comeback at the age of 36 after four years away from football. Barber's television career is in shambles and his personal life in ruins, and the most obvious reason for the comeback is that he needs some way to earn a payday. Over at Big Blue View, the folks have had fun ripping Tiki ever since word got out Tuesday afternoon.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Safety Joe Lefeged will be the main attraction at today's Rutgers Pro Day. Lefeged appears to be a late-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

BOXING: If you missed Chris Celletti's tremendous piece on the 40th anniversary of Ali-Frazier I on Tuesday take the time to read it today.

BASEBALL: Today we look at the ABCs of New York Yankees Spring Training, and the continuation of the Oliver Perez watch with the New York Mets.
