Big East Basketball Awards: Dwight Hardy Earns First-Team Selection

St. John's basketball's senior point guard Dwight Hardy was one of six players to be named to the All-Big East First Team Sunday afternoon. The honor, voted on by the Big East Conference coaches, is the first by a Red Storm player since Lamont Hamilton in 2007.

"Hardy provided the critical offensive punch to help fuel the resurgence at St. John’s. The senior guard averaged 17.9 ppg which ranked fourth for the regular season.  The Red Storm’s 12-6 mark was their best since a 12-4 record in 1999-2000," said the official release from the Big East Conference.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish senior guard Ben Hansbrough was the only unanimous selection, while Connecticut Huskies guard Kemba Walker, Georgetown Hoyas guard Austin Freeman, Pittsburgh Panthers guard Ashton Gibbs and Providence Friars guard Marshon Brooks also were first-team selections.

Syracuse basketball's senior forward Rick Jackson was selected to the second-team, while teammate junior forward Kris Joseph was named to the third-team and senior guard Scoop Jardine received honorable mention.

Rutgers basketball's forward Gilvydas Biruta was named to the All-Rookie Team. Below are the complete results:
