Syracuse Pro Day Set For March 23

Syracuse University will hold its Pro Day for NFL scouts, coaches and general managers on March 23. The four players who participated in the recently-concluded NFL Scouting Combine will also work out during the Pro Day -- center Ryan Bartholomew, running back DeLone Carter, inside linebacker Derrell Smith and outside linebacker Doug Hogue.

Bartholomew will hope to build on impressive work at the Combine, where he improved his draft position by showing more strength and athleticism that anticipated, doing34 reps of the 225-pound bench press and running a 4.97 40-yard dash.

Carter impressed in both the Pinstripe Bowl, Syracuse's final game, and in the East-West Shrine Game -- taking MVP honors in both of those. Carter weighed in at 222 pounds at the Combine and ran a 4.56 40-yard dash. He is likely considered a mid-round pick in the draft at this point.

Hogue showed good speed at the Combine, running a 4.63 40. He had only 18 reps on the bench press, though. Hogue is an inexperienced linebacker, but has athleticism and could be a late-round pick.

Smith weighed in at 243 pounds. He did not run or lift at the Combine, so the Pro Day will be critical for Smith. He is likely a late-round choice or undrafted free agent. Smith was larger than anticipated when he weighed in at the Combine, likely a good thing for a middle linebacker.
