NCAA Women's Tournament 2011: Tennessee Vs. Notre Dame, Stanford Vs. Gonzaga in Elite Eight

The NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament continues tonight as action begins in the Elite 8 round of the tournament. Two berths in the Final Four are on the line tonight at No. 1 Tennessee meets No. 2 Notre Dame in the Dayton Region final (7 p.m., ESPN) and No. 1 Stanford meets No. 11 Gonzaga in the Spokane Region final.

Tennessee (34-2) defeated Ohio State to reach tonight's match-up with Notre Dame (29-7. The Irish routed Oklahoma in the Sweet 16. Tennessee has won 25 straight games this season, and has eight national championships and 18 Final Four appearances during the Pat Summitt era. Notre Dame won the NCAA title in 2001, one of its two Final Four appearances. It has not reached the Final Four since winning that championship.

Stanford is the Pac 10 champion and always a power in women's college basketball. Gonzaga, an 11th seed, is probably the biggest surprise team remaining in the tournament. This visit to the Elite Eight is the farthest the school has ever gone in NCAA Women's Tournament play
