The semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational are now set after the results of Monday’s quarterfinal games. In Wednesday’s matchups Oregon will host Boise State and Creighton will face UCF.
The winners of those games will then meet in a best-of-three championship series beginning March 28. Recaps of Monday night’s action are below.
Creighton 102, Davidson 92: Doug McDermott’s double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds led the way for Creighton, as the Bluejays defeated the Davidson Wildcats, 102-92, in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament at Qwest Center Omaha.
Antoine Young added 22 points and nine assists for Creighton (21-14), which will play the UCF Knights in the semifinals. Josh Jones helped out with 21 points, while Gregory Echenique chipped in 10 points.
De’Mon Brooks registered 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Davidson (18-15), while JP Kuhlman and Jake Cohen finished with 19 and 16 points, respectively. (Sports Network)
Boise State 75, Evansville 69: Ryan Watkins scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Boise State Broncos to a 75-69 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament at Taco Bell Arena.
Daequon Montreal added 14 points for Boise State (22-12), which will now battle the UCF Knights in the semifinals. La’Shard Anderson added 11 points and six assists in the win, while Westly Perryman tallied 10 points.
Ned Cox registered 17 points for Evansville (16-16), while Kenny Harris tallied 16 points. Denver Holmes finished with 13 points, while Colt Ryan chipped in 10 points in the loss. (Sports Network)
UCF 66, Rhode Island 54: Keith Clanton scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the UCF Knights topped the Rhode Island Rams, 66-54, in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament at UCF Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Knights (21-11) were A.J. Tyler and Tom Herzog with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Rams (20-14) were paced by Delroy James with a game-high 18 points, adding eight rebounds in the setback. (Sports Network)
Oregon 77, Duquesne 75: E.J. Singler sank a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining to give the Oregon Ducks a 77-75 win over the Duquesne Dukes in quarterfinal action of the CBI Tournament at Matthew Knight Arena.
Singler finished the night with 11 points for the Ducks (18-17), one of four starters to score in double figures for the hosts. Garrett Sim was the top scorer overall with 20 points, while Joevan Catron registered 14 points and 11 rebounds and Malcolm Armstead 10 points before picking up his fifth personal foul.
The Dukes (19-13) were paced by Bill Clark who tallied 19 points and cleared seven rebounds on the evening, followed by Sean Johnson with 13 points off the bench. Damian Saunders knocked down 3-of-4 shots behind the three-point line as he produced 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. (Sports Network)
