It is hardly the NCAA Tournament, the Big Dance all college basketball teams strive for, but a pair of New York schools will be participating in the College Basketball Invitational. Hofstra and St. Bonaventure are in the 16-team field for the fourth annual tournament.
↵What is the College Basketball Invitational? Good question. The event takes 16 teams not selected for the NCAA or NIT tournaments and puts them in a single-elimination event until the finals. The finalists meet in a best-of-three series. Games are held at campus sites.
↵Hofstra (21-11) is making its second consecutive appearance in the CBI. Hofstra has now made five postseason appearances in the last seven years, including three straight NIT bids from 2005-07, and its 10th Division I postseason bid in program history (four NCAA, four NIT, two CBI). The Pride will travel to Evansville (8 p.m. ET, Tuesday).
↵St. Bonaventure (16-14) travels to face Central Florida on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET).
