How upset were you Sunday when Christina Aguilera botched the national anthem? Undeniably it wasn't good, and Aguilera is deservedly getting panned all across the Internet today, but give her a little credit for finding a way to get back into the anthem and finish it without having it turn into a complete disaster. We have seen that before, and it's really, really ugly.
Aguilera said she simply "lost her place" in the anthem.
"I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place," she explained. "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
This was not as embarrassing as Roseanne or Carl Lewis butchering the anthem, or some of the other epic fails we have seen over the years when performing the anthem. It will, however, be a flub that Aguilera will always have to live with.
A quick search of YouTube revealed many occasions, including Game 6 of the NBA Finals last spring, where Aguilera has performed the anthem. Just to prove that she does know the words, here is that performance of the anthem.
