Rutgers Vs. Notre Dame: Scarlet Knight Look For Win At South Bend

(Sports Network) -- The ninth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish have an opportunity to improve their already impressive record, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights invade the Joyce Center in South Bend for a Big East Conference affair.

Losses in each of its last three outings have dropped Rutgers to 3-7 in Big East action, a mark that clearly overshadows a solid 12-10 overall record. The last two losses have come by a combined total of five points, including Wednesday's 58-56 setback to St. John's on Wednesday. Of the seven true road games that the Scarlet Knights have played, just two have resulted in wins, an obvious reason for concern heading into this evening's affair.

As for the Fighting Irish, their 18-4 record matches the best start under long-time head coach Mike Brey. Each of the last four outings have resulted in victory for Brey's squad, including Thursday's 83-58 road romp over DePaul. Notre Dame, which is 7-3 in Big East action, carries a perfect 13-0 home record into today's affair.

Notre Dame holds a 16-12 series edge over Rutgers, including 11-9 versus the Scarlet Knights in Big East regular-season play.
