Philadelphia Flyers At New York Rangers: Rangers Need The Two Points On The Table

It only took one game to erase the feel-good two-game winning streak that the Rangers were able to put together, after a six game losing streak.

But after the Rangers 1-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils, it almost feels like they're right back to square one.

This afternoon the Rangers will take on their rival, and one of the best teams in hockey, Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden. The two points are a must for the Rangers, a sentiment which will follow every game from this point forward until the Rangers secure a playoff berth.

The Rangers have a very misleading six point cushion between them and ninth place Buffalo. Sure, it's six points, but the Sabres have three games in hand. They take on the Washington Capitals today as well.

Notes:

  • I still expect Henrik Lundqvist to get the start today. He was good against New Jersey and when the Rangers need to win games, he should be the guy in the net.
  • The Rangers young defense will be tested by the Flyers. They aren't one of the best teams in the league by mistake, and they have proven all year that they have a wealth of scoring talent. The Rangers defense will need to be on their toes all day, and keep the crease in front of Lundqvist clean.
  • The Rangers also can't get sucked into the physical game that the Flyers play. Stay out of the box, no retaliations and you might have a chance.
